Synopsis

I wasn’t supposed to be in town for long. Get in, get the job done, and get out.
Easy. Simple.
She was never supposed to happen, and her baby girl sure as hell wasn’t part of my plans. I didn’t need the complication and I certainly wasn’t planning on staying.
“Mommy’s scared, Ryan. Don’t leave.”
Five words. That was all it took for my life to change forever.

My Thoughts

Heartbreaker was my first Anna Brooks book and I liked it.

Ryan falls for Opal at first sight and I can see how his alpha ways made Opal uneasy. Added to this, Ryan is in town temporarily so he is not the ideal candidate to hitch your I-want-a-committed-relationship wagon to.

What I liked about Ryan is that even with his commanding manner he was not afraid to show his softer side to Opal or her daughter, Olivia. It was nice to read about a hero whose carrying around his own vulnerabilities after his own disappointments in love.

Opal definitely has a tough life as a single parent and it’s easy to get frustrated with her when she rebuffs Ryan so often. I had to keep reminding myself that she was an overburdened twenty one years old; she was a baby who had a baby!

There’s a bit of suspense in the book that adds to the overall story but does not overtake the relationship between Ryan and Opal.

The novella-length book was a quick read but I felt the story was complete.

About Anna Brooks

Anna began writing when she thought the world would want to hear her sick lyrics through song.Since then, she's realized her childhood dream wasn't so far-fetched, just misguided. Now she writes romance with real emotions and happy endings. If Anna isn't writing or reading, she can be found by a space heater drinking a ridiculous amount of Diet Dr Pepper. She also likes to hang out with her husband and two boys. If it wasn't for them, she wouldn't ever leave the house.
Anna was born in Wisconsin but now lives in the Evergreen state.
