New Release: SHE'S GOT SOUL by Aja

Zola Lewis is many things to many people. She’s a marketing extraordinaire by day, and a podcast host by night. She’s also a devoted daughter, a funny and care giving auntie to her sister’s daughter. But, the one thing she is not, is a wife to a loving husband and she’s beginning to think that could never happen because she’s entirely too opinionated for most men. One night on her live podcast, she experienced a challenging caller who seemed to aggravate her more than a little, and Zola wondered who was more opinionated. Zola or the caller?

Khalil Berry was a bit of a nerd growing up, and as a result, also a bit of a late bloomer. Time not spent with girls allowed him to stick with books. His big brain landed him many opportunities and by his mid-twenties, he’d amassed a fortune from his software apps. The latest app he’s developing requires more hands on research and he decides to do the research himself. First stop, listening to a podcast by a woman talking about women; a topic he was beginning to learn more about since his money seems attracts them all the time. The task was simple, listen and take notes. But, her voice is too melodic and her words, well, let’s just say she didn’t know what she was talking about as far as he was concerned. So he calls in to correct her.

They’re both great at giving a piece of their mind, but can they hand over their well-guarded hearts?

Book Review: ROUGH SKETCH by Kate Canterbary

This crazy-hot enemies-to-lovers standalone novella pits boss lady Neera Malik against arrogant artist Gus Guillmand, and they fight dirrrrrty.

Smart, successful, and sitting pretty at the top of her game, Neera Malik has it all figured out.

Save for the small issue of Gustavo Guillmand.

The artist with a cult—and Instagram—following has a problem and it's not his preference for shirtless selfies.

No, he has an attitude problem, a minding his own business problem, an infuriatingly sexy problem.

They can't stand each other and they can't stay away from each other.

Yowza! If you need a story to get your engine revving quick-smart, pick up ROUGH SKETCH by Kate Canterbary.

It’s no secret that I am a fan of Canterbary’s writing, and even with this shorter novella length her skill is apparent. Busy career woman Neera Malik and artist Gus Guillmand have been thoughtfully and intelligently crafted. I enjoyed their introspective thoughts. The arguments are passionate, and the banter between them is top-notch. These enemies-to-lovers are driving each other and themselves crazy!

As for the romance? Canterbary’s a master at fanning the flames of attraction and building an intense romance. Simply put, these two were scorching hot and they definitely put on a show for us readers.

ROUGH SKETCH is book 4 in the Talbott’s Cove series. Characters from previous books do make an appearance but no assumed knowledge is presumed; this reads well as a stand-alone book.

I don’t know where Canterbary is taking us next: Be it one of her existing book worlds or a brand new adventure, I am signing up for the ride.

Kate Canterbary doesn’t have it all figured out, but this is what she knows for sure: spicy-ass salsa and tequila solve most problems, living on the ocean–Pacific or Atlantic–is the closest place to perfection, and writing smart, smutty stories is a better than any amount of chocolate.

She started out reporting for an indie arts and entertainment newspaper back when people still read newspapers, and she has been writing and surreptitiously interviewing people—be careful sitting down next to her on an airplane—ever since.

Kate lives on the water in New England with Mr. Canterbary and the Little Baby Canterbary, and when she isn’t writing sexy architects, she’s scheduling her days around the region’s best food trucks.

Book Review: NO VACANCY by Stephanie Rose

Can a summer fling become the love of a lifetime?

Title: No Vacancy
Author: Stephanie Rose
Release Date: October 28, 2019

Can a summer fling become the love of a lifetime?

Perpetual good girl Caterina Longo is dependable to a fault. At 33, she’s never called in sick. Never had a one-night stand. Never taken a chance in her entire life. When she walks in on a cheating ex and sees everything wrong with her life, she takes off on a solo vacation, busting out of her comfort zone and into the arms of a guy she never saw coming.

Joe Hunter has no room for distractions. Making his restaurant a success and proving his worth to his family—and himself—is his sole focus. At least it is until a beautiful stranger, in search of fried food and a shoulder, wanders in one night.

Is two weeks of unexpected, life-altering passion all they’re meant to share? What happens when vacation ends and real life takes over?

$2.99 for a Limited Time | Free with Kindle Unlimited

“Those summer niiiiii – iigghhhhhts”

“Tell me more, tell me mooooore!!!”

I love the movie Grease but who knew references to the movie would further increase my enjoyment of a book? Not me. And yet, so it was proved in Stephanie Rose’s NO VACANCY. It’s an all-round enjoyable book. It’s sweet. It’s sincere. The steam factor is high. And you just want to jump right into the book and do what you can to make sure Caterina and Joe end up together.

It’s certainly not all sugar and lightness, because beyond this intense late-summer fling, we have a couple who make the decision to try a long distance relationship. I really enjoyed this aspect of the book. It was a time when both Caterina and Joe had to really dig deep to not only fight for their relationship, but it meant having to confront their own long-held attitudes about life issues.

As intense as some of the topics are, the book is written with a lightness that doesn’t mire it into a pool of angst. It’s always upbeat, uplifting and incredibly romantic.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

Book Review: HAPPY TRAIL by Daisy Prescott

"Happy Trail was a feel good, funny and heartwarming adventure with the usual Daisy Prescott charm.."-- T. Gephart, USA Today bestselling author

HAPPY TRAIL, an all-new opposites attract standalone romance from USA Today bestselling author Daisy Prescott, is available now!

20190718_GVPR01_Happy Trail_Prescott_KDP_FINAL

A man of few words, Ranger Jay Daniels values the calm, quiet solitude of the Great Smoky Mountains. Never quite fitting in with either side of his family, he prefers the company of birds and trees to people.

Yeah, he’d most definitely prefer a bird—any bird, any bird at all, take a vulture for instance—to the human-tornado hybrid that just blew onto his peaceful stretch of the Appalachian Trail.

The path of true love never has run smooth for Olive Perry. After getting dumped and promptly abandoned in the middle of her multi-month hike, Olive swears off men. Determined to finish the long trek by herself, she doesn’t need a prince—or broody and taciturn ranger—to save her.

Yet, when an early snowstorm threatens the mountains, and Ranger Daniels is charged with getting hikers to safety, that includes hot-tempered Olive Perry. Snowed in and forced to share an abandoned cabin, can Olive’s heated intensity melt Jay’s cool reserve?

And if so, will this happy trail lead to true love? Or will their time together be just another bump in the road?

'Happy Trail' is a full-length contemporary romantic comedy, can be read as a standalone, and is book#1 in the Park Ranger series.

Hmm… When I started reading this book, I felt like Daisy Prescott was introducing me to characters that I would struggle to like: The cynical hero with misanthropic tendencies. A flighty female (engaged six times!!!) with no job, just coasting along on her family’s money. Will they win me over? Or will I want to pitch the book across the room? I am happy to report there’s nothing to fear. HAPPY TRAIL proved to be a delightful read.

Let’s start with our heroine Olive Perry. She is far removed from my initial impression. In fact, I loved her and her journey throughout this book. Olive gets dumped by her boyfriend while hiking the Appalachian Trail. Coming from a non-outdoorsy background, it wasn’t even her idea to hike in the first place! But instead of hobbling to the nearest 5 star hotel and drawing a line under the entire experience, Olive not only decides to complete the trail section that was originally planned, but she decides to complete the entire thing! How’s that for tenacity? Olive truly was an inspiration, and I held her in ever-increasing regard as the book progressed. I found her character to be funny, witty and down-to-earth. I loved all the parts about the trail: the triumphs, the hardships, plus the characters Olive met along the way all added up to enjoyable story.

And then there’s Ranger Jay Daniels, or Ranger Smoking Hot, as Olive names him upon first sight. Jay’s lifetime of experiences as a half-American/half-Japanese person has impacted how he deals with people. He’s quite anti-social and withdrawn. He’s earnest and serious in his opinions and doesn’t care to connect in a shallow manner. This is very different to the people Olive is typically surrounded by, and she is intrigued.

This romance between these two is definitely not smooth sailing. Physical attraction is not an issue – there’s plenty of that. But we’re talking about two very different people, living very different lives, facing very different futures and the obstacles at times seem insurmountable. What I appreciated about Jay and Olive is that they considered the opinions of the other. Perhaps not immediately, but they talked, and then reflected on what was said. They were working towards a common goal: a united Jay and Olive.

HAPPY TRAIL was definitely a satisfying reading experience. I can’t wait to see who’s up next in the Park Ranger series.

Book Review: THE SPICE KING by Elizabeth Camden

Gray Delacroix has dedicated his life to building an acclaimed global spice empire, but it has come at a cost. Resolved to salvage his family before they spiral out of control, he returns to his ancestral home for good after years of traveling the world.

As a junior botanist for the Smithsonian, Annabelle Larkin has been charged with the impossible task of gaining access to the notoriously private Delacroix plant collection. If she fails, she will be out of a job and the family farm in Kansas will go under. She has no idea that in gaining entrance to the Delacroix world, she will unwittingly step into a web of dangerous political intrigue far beyond her experience.

Unable to deny her attraction to the reclusive business tycoon, Annabelle will be forced to choose between her heart and loyalty to her country. Can Gray and Annabelle find a way through the storm of scandal without destroying the family Gray is fighting to save?

THE SPICE KING by Elizabeth Camden is the first book I’ve read by this author, and I am glad she’s got a hefty back catalogue I can read because this book had me riveted.
The story is filled with political machinations, intrigue and betrayal, much of it within the bounds of agriculture and food manufacturing. The historical accounts are richly detailed and woven beautifully throughout the story. Camden did an excellent job in unfolding this story arc. It was a most satisfying read.

Two of the main players in this book – and our romantic couple –are the wealthy and powerful Gray Delacroix and the guileless Annabelle Larkin. They are such diverse characters with an ocean of experience between them, and yet, they are perfectly suited.
Annabelle’s determination and spiritedness arouses something in the weary and lonely Gray that he is eager to pursue. There are absolutely no sexually explicit scenes in this book – they barely touch each other – yet they are incredibly romantic and their love rings true.

I highly recommend The Spice King.

I am delighted to know that the next book in this series has already been announced. It will feature Gray’s sister Caroline along with security agent Nathaniel Trask. I am ready!
