My Thoughts
Dominate is book two in Gareth and Sloan's story. My review of Surrender, book one, can be found here.
DOMINATE by
Amy Daws is the conclusion to not only Gareth and Sloan’s story, it’s also the
concluding book to the Harris family series. I enjoyed reading Daws’ writing
and I think her ‘voice’ is getting stronger with each book she writes.
I enjoyed
the updates we get about the whole family. It’s no secret that while the
siblings get on, relations are beyond strained with their father. In Dominate,
we get to see them communicating, acknowledging past wrongs and moving forward
stronger than they ever were. There’s even a wake for their deceased mother, and
frankly you’d have to have a heart of stone to not be moved by these scenes.
I enjoyed the
continuation of Gareth and Sloan’s story. There are still a few relationship hiccups
along the way as each of them works through personal issues but it’s a journey
of individual growth that ultimately makes them a stronger couple. Daws’
writing paints a wonderful picture of Gareth and Sloan’s love, hope and joy in
their relationship. Even when things are not going to plan, the emotion felt by
them, especially Gareth, was moving to read.
As much as
I liked this book, I do feel there are parts that did not work and they revolve
around Gareth and Sloan’s book being a duet. In brief, I do not think a duet
was necessary and the overall story is a tad weaker because of this format. The
attack on Gareth and Sloan that provided the cliffhanger ending of Surrender
felt contrived. In Dominate, the investigation and revelation of the culprits is
rarely mentioned and it peters out as the book progresses. Further, the sub/dom
preferences of Gareth and Sloan that were hyped up in Surrender rarely made a
blip in this book. Upon reflection, it seems this part of the story was dialed up
in Surrender for the shock value more than anything, because it became clear in
Dominate that this preference is just a role they sometimes play together. It
wasn’t such a big deal in the end.
I haven’t
read all the Harris Brothers books but I think that fans will appreciate the
send off the author has written for the family.

Amy Daws is
an Amazon Top 25 bestselling author of sexy, contemporary romance novels. She
enjoys writing love stories that take place in America, as well as across the
pond in England; especially about those footy-playing Harris Brothers of hers.
When Amy is not writing in a tire shop waiting room, she’s watching Gilmore
Girls, or singing karaoke in the living room with her daughter while Daddy
smiles awkwardly from a distance. For more of Amy's work, visit: http://www.amydawsauthor.com
