Synopsis

First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes baby in a baby carriage. Just not necessarily in that order....

Braxton: I should probably be dead or in jail right now. Instead, thanks to some tough love, I worked my ass off and now I own a string of tattoo parlors throughout the Pacific Northwest. And yet the one thing I’ve always wanted—a family—still seems out of reach. When my best friend gets married, I’m just hoping to blow off some steam with the super-hot maid of honor. But after Cara Thompson tracks me down to tell me she’s pregnant, she’s more surprised than I am when I tell her I’m all in.

Cara: For the first time in my life, I’m living for myself—not for my parents and their ridiculous expectations. I gave up on my MBA, dropped out of the Ivy League, and moved to Portland to pursue my dream of becoming an artist. And what’s the first thing I do? Get knocked up. For a tatted-up sex god, Braxton Henley seems way too eager to “be there for me.” Is this guy serious? Maybe. He sure is patient. Because he won’t back down until I admit what I know in my heart: that our one night stand might’ve led me to the one.

My Thoughts

I really enjoyed Knocked Up by Stacey Lynn. It’s a straightforward romance that features some complicated characters.

After a one-night stand with Braxton, Cara finds herself pregnant. With little support and reeling from a personal tragedy, Cara expects to bring this child up by herself. She is surprised at Braxton’s eagerness to not only help her but stay involved.

Braxton himself is the product of a troublesome childhood, and, like Cara, is keen to give his child all the things he missed out on, namely love, safety and security.

I think Cara and Braxton make a great couple. They clearly have feelings for each other beyond the physical and were willing to work together for the sake of their child. Yes, there were several moments of conflict, and their responses were not always the most level-headed, but hey, it’s a romance. We need a bit of conflict before the final pages.

I did feel Braxton’s deep feelings for Cara came a touch too soon given the minimal amount of time they had spent together but I was happy to overlook this because the way he thinks of Cara and the way he loves her is something truly special.

P.S. The current cover (shirtless male giving female a piggyback ride) is way off the mark. Braxton is a tattoo artist and his body is covered in tattoos.
