Dylan Allen has such a way with words that I find myself
just getting immersed in the story and in the lives of her characters. Envy is
a beautiful story.
We first meet Apollo and Graham during their childhood. Not
only did they meet in the most unique way, but we get to see the blossoming of
a most beautiful friendship among the desolation of a lonely and harsh life. As
the years go by we see Apollo and Graham grow, learn, suffer losses, and have
successes. And as strong as their friendship is, forces are in play that create
cracks in what was once an unbreakable friendship.
There are so many highs and lows in their lives that my
emotions were seesawing along with those of the characters. These characters
are authentic. They’re genuine, flawed, serious, fun. I laughed with them. I
cried with them. I supported them when they were lost. I cheered for them when
they finally found not only friendship but the deepest love with each other.
